The children placed the pattern they have created from previous work onto some fabric, using glue. The glue was applied directly from a squeezy bottle and left to dry. Paint (with added water) was applied to the material and left to dry. The glue was then removed using warm water.
Wax Resist
Year 4 applied an understanding of tone to the technique of hatching; using pattern and contrast when creating a mixed-media drawing based on their collage compositions.
Year 4 investigated a model frame structure, improving its stability, then we applied this research, to design and create a stable, decorated pavilion.
In art we have been leaning to mix shades and tints. We have also leant to paint, using techniques such as dabbing, stippling, pointillism, washes, adding texture to paint and the use of different tools. We used some of these to paint an apple. We then arranged a still life composition, sketching it, then using various techniques to paint it.
Joint Book Club with The Beacon Alliance
Three of our class have been meeting once a week to discuss and read the book Fizzlebert Stump… The Boy Who Ran Away From the Circus.
The children have been really enthusiastic about the project.
Today, they held their first Zoom call with children from St. Andrew’s and also from St. Marie’s. They spoke so clearly and justified their thoughts. Along the way, there were some giggles too.
in a few weeks, they will have another Zoom meeting, before meeting in person with the other schools in the summer term.
Thank you to Mrs Murnane for meeting with the children every week.
Guys, we’re so proud of you!!
We planted an apple tree and named it 'Jack'
Watching a BBC Teach - Live Lesson
Reading the first five pages of their partners new class reading book. Reporting back to their group or class, giving a synopsis of what they have read, and saying if they would want to read the rest of the book, and why.
Pupils explored pavilion structures, learning about what they are used for and investigating how to create strong and stable structures, before also designing and creating their own pavilions, complete with cladding.
Autumn 1 - Art Skills
Optical Illusions
Inspired by the ‘lenticular prints’ of Luz Perez Ojeda, children carefully cut two images into strips and by alternating them side by side, in sequential order, and then folding, they created an optical illusion piece of art.
Willow Pattern
Children designed their own willow pattern style plate based on a tale of their choice, first drawing three key characters, then going over the details with paint, before finally using a wash in lighter tones of blue.
Paul Cézanne
Learning how Cézanne influenced the shift to modern art, children work in his style, mixing colours using short, angular strokes and painting in various directions.
Soap Sculptures
Referring to the works of Barbara Hepworth, children use a variety of tools to carve a piece of soap into a sculpture.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
