What is a sentence? spring 2026
In class, we discussed what makes a sentence. Some people said a capital letter and full stop. We looked at this together. "A cat and a dog." We decided this didn't really tell us anything about the cat and the dog. We then explored that a sentence needs a noun (a person, a place or a thing - e.g. teacher, library, tree) and a verb ( an action word - e.g. running, crying, playing). We then created this sentence "A cat and a dog were playing ." We then wrote our own sentences, making sure it had a noun and a verb as well as checking for punctuation (capital letter and full stop or question mark or exclamation mark). Here are some of our sentences.
