Online Safety
Safer Internet Day
Our key-stage 2 children thoroughly enjoyed the very lively online assembly hosted by Google and Be Internet Legends. The assembly recapped many of the main messages that we teach the children in school. If you wish to reinforce these messages further at home, take a look at these family challenges/games... the children will recognise the characters from our assembly. Just click the link below!

E-safety has become increasingly important, in recent years. We believe that giving our pupils the skills and information they need to keep themselves safe online is as important as teaching them about being safe in the 'real' world.
Hence, as part of our Computing curriculum all pupils in KS1 and KS2 cover a sequence of lessons looking at online safety, following the Kapow scheme of work. It keeps the children up-to-date with the latest skills and rules required to stay safe online.
There is a vast amount of information available to parents, and to be honest it’s sometimes hard to know where to start.
The links below give guidance for you as a parent, much of it split by the child’s age.
Managing Screen Time
Clearly, spend more time online than ever before. Below are links to 3 videos and 3 leaflets, giving advice on how to manage your child's screen-time. They are divided into ages 0-5, 5-7 and 7-11.
Net Aware
The NSPCC's latest initiative is Net Aware. The website has information specifically for parents about the social media sites young people are currently using. There is also the ability to sign up to their newsletter which will ensure you are up-to-date with the latest happenings online.
#Goldilocks... A Hastag Cautionary Tale by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross
A fabulous online book, to teach your child about posting safely online. The first 10000 copies of the book can be downloaded for free. It’s been produced by Vodafone, who have a fabulous range of articles for parents about keeping children safe online. Year 6 and Year 5, have enjoyed discussing the book and its message in class, during their eSafety lesson. Follow the link below for Vodafone’s super site.
